Our History

Serene Care was founded in 1999 by Margaret Ellis, a registered nurse with a vision to build a community-centered nursing home focused on respect and individualized care. Beginning as a small facility with 24 beds, Serene Care has grown steadily while preserving its founding values. Over the years we expanded our services to include short-term rehabilitation, long-term skilled nursing, memory care programming, and outpatient therapy. Our growth has always been guided by families, residents, and local health partners.

Our Mission

Our mission is to promote quality of life through compassionate, personalized care, clinical excellence, and strong partnerships with families and the community. We believe every resident deserves to be treated with empathy, dignity, and respect — and that care should support physical health as well as emotional and social well-being.

Leadership Team

Serene Care is led by a multidisciplinary leadership team that blends clinical expertise with compassionate management:

  • Margaret Ellis, RN — Founder & Executive Director
  • Daniel Moreno, RN, MSN — Director of Nursing
  • Sandra Lee, MBA — Administrator
  • Dr. Aisha Khan, MD — Medical Director
  • Rachel Owens, LCSW — Director of Social Services

Our Care Philosophy

We practice person-centered care. That means:

  • Listening to each resident’s life story and preferences.
  • Creating individualized care plans co-developed with residents and families.
  • Promoting independence and meaningful activity whenever possible.
  • Applying evidence-based clinical practices to ensure safety and positive outcomes.

We also emphasize a homelike environment: nutritious meals, social programs, spiritual support, and access to nature and the outdoors when able.

Staff Qualifications and Training

Our staff are the heart of Serene Care. We employ licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants, rehabilitation therapists, dietitians, social workers, and activities coordinators. Key aspects of our staffing and training include:

  • State-licensed and certified nursing staff on every shift.
  • Regular continuing education in geriatric care, dementia care, infection prevention, and falls prevention.
  • Background checks and routine competency evaluations for all employees.
  • Team-based rounds that include nurses, therapists, social services, and leadership to coordinate care.

Accreditations and Quality
